Outside the Packard Plant

I just returned from a trip to Detroit. The first question that I’m always asked is “Why did I go to Detroit?” Well, that’s easy - It’s a city full of abandoned buildings that once made up the backbone of our industrial midwest. My primary goal was to photograph the two major abandoned buildings in Detroit - The Packard plant and the Fisher Automotive plant. Additionally, I spent some of my time photographing the city, its homes, and many other abandoned buildings and churches. And although I like to photograph people, the streets of the city are eerily quiet - even downtown. There was an interesting article in the April 14, 2013 edition of The New York Times about one man’s attempt to revitalize the city. Click here for a link to the article.  Update - On Thursday, July 18, 2013 the city of Detroit filed for bankruptcy.
